Another odd thing I've seen on DA are people who exclaim on their profiles "STOP THANKING ME FOR FAVS!" or even, " I DON'T WANT MY PROFILE FULL OF THANK YOUS!" or, "COMMENTS LIKE 'COOL' ARE NOT HELPFUL!"

...first of all, a comment MUST be 'helpful' in order for it to have relevance or meaning? But that's another thing; how do you define 'helpful' then? If you want an actual critique, okay, ask for it, and post the box for it, but otherwise, why would you dislike it when someone happens by, and just says your work is 'cool'? I understand there are artists who want more in-depth analyses of their work, but not everyone wants to give them. So, it's better to say nothing then, instead? Do you really demand and expect that everyone basically write you a poem or something based on how great your art is, or why it's so flawless? Because it's not flawless.  This sort of reminds of that guy I got into a rare argument with, in which he declared that comments like that are indeed completely meaningless, and are only made as an attempt to 'appeal to the artist;' people don't make comments like that out of sincerity, oh absolutely not. Everyone knows that.

Why would you demand people stop thanking you for favoriting something though? Isn't it nice, as well as polite and courteous, that someone take the time to do that for you? Before you say, 'well, some people get a lot of thank you's, so...' yeah, so what? I understand not being able to take the time to reply to everything you get, although a thank you is in itself a reply to something, but I don't understand telling people to stop thanking you for expressing their gratitude. And as for people who say they don't want their profiles 'full of thank you's,' well, then what DO you want your profile full of; in-depth essays about your art? Adoration for you that is not in the form of a thank-you? Or do you simply want nothing there at all? I suppose it might be nice if DA gave better options for editing some of this stuff, I admit, and perhaps disabling profile comments would be a good option to at least have. This is especially relevant for spam instances, as well as outright hate messages and threats, which DA doesn't seem too concerned about, usually. But again, I'm talking about good comments, thank you's, that appreciative people post, and...some artists hate those, and don't want them, I guess. I gotta admit, I don't get it. Maybe all the artists like that are just the self-loathing type, and/or are just way too snobby, and only want comments from certain kinds of people. That wouldn't surprise me.

...I don't understand what you're getting at; so, you do have real 'reasons' for hating Tom Preston, or...what? And...why are you posting this here?

Basically an Deviantard with a unprofessional and idiotic attitude, and an art skill that is still continuing to go backwards since several years, with inconsistent and misinformed opinions on everything.

Add that with the fact he is unable to take different opinions from anyone (and blocking them), and has a passive-aggressive attitude towards criticism. Without mentioning that his fanbase is full of children praising him.

I was saying that because you seemed so sure that people was hating him for 'no reason', which is an untrue statement.

Actually, there do seem to be a lot of people that do hate him for absolutely no reason. I know this because I have asked some members here directly, and they wouldn't give me an answer. At all. They pretty much avoided the question. If there are real reasons, then why be shy about sharing them? Hell, one person I asked, upon looking at his own DA page, had stamps that said "I Support Trolling." That's all I needed to know, at least about that guy. I get the feeling the same policy applies to many others, as well.

I've heard the common arguments, such as those you listed, as to why people despise him, but that's just it; why is he worth honestly despising? If people don't like his work, then why not just leave him alone? I don't understand the NEED to constantly pester him and tell him he sucks. Is that going to make him honestly change? Probably not, no; that's not the way to get someone to improve. Constructive criticism is one thing, but just saying 'you have no talent' or 'just stop drawing' is not. But that's another thing in itself; I think there are a lot of people who don't want to give constructive criticism and don't want to help him. They just love dispensing hate, and that doesn't help anyone. But again, helping is clearly not the goal of many people.

I have also heard the common complaint that he doesn't take criticism at all, but well, then isn't that all the more reason to leave him alone instead continuously telling him why his work sucks? If people think he sucks, and he isn't going to listen to actual suggestions, then why bother even paying attention to him at all? Why do people still feel the need to? That's what I don't understand, and that's what no one will answer.

I wouldn't call myself a fan of his work either, honestly. I don't really follow his work and don't care what he does. If he can't take criticism, that doesn't make me want to bother him and try to force it on him, or just tell him he sucks. It's his problem, not mine; he'll either deal with it, and grow and improve as an artist, or he won't. It really doesn't matter to me which happens. I'm just confused about the irrational hate that he, as well as some other artists here, receive. I mean, honest hatred really doesn't make sense to me because I don't understand why people CARE, and I don't understand why some people seem to think continuing to foster hatred will change anything.

Then again, people are people, and this is what some people do, and I know it's nothing new.

Well, I took your advice to try drawing without any tracing involved or (using a base). I let my ahnd go free; for the first time.
I must've really gotten used to that style of drawing characters, cuz' it kinda looks the same, but still a little more original than the base I used.

Thanks for bringing all that to my attention; although I was upset at first.
If there's a will, there's a way. :)

Yes, indeed you were quite upset, as one way of putting it. However, if you're taking this step in the right direction, that's good.

Sometimes styles do look similar to each other. Eh, it happens. Like...a lot. Really a lot. It comes from a number factors that one exposes themselves to, but so long as it's still all from you, actually learning and developing yourself, then that's what matters and that's what's good.

I hope it all goes well. Good luck on it. ^-^.v
